Living in today’s society with all its demands, money issues and materialistic focus is costing a lot of people their quality of life. The world is a beautiful place offering an idealistic way of life. Nature has adorned us with such beauty and magnificence, diversity and richness that everybody should be living quite literally in heaven. There is an abundance of food, energy and human beings that every single person on the planet could live in complete fulfilment of all their needs enjoying a daily life of joy and love.
So what’s happened, why is half the world at war and the other half starving? Why are most people simply trying to cope from moment to next? When there is so much beauty and abundance in the world why is fear, anxiety and depression the mainstream of peoples states of mind?
In the UK alone we are blessed with such green lands, beautiful rives and lush vegetation that on the surface it would seem to be an amazing island to live. However when you look at the statistics they paint a dark picture of what going on with our people.
UK Statistics On Mental Health
– The UK has one of the highest rates of self-harm in Europe, at 400 per 100,000 population.
– One in ten children between the ages of one and 15 suffers from mental health issues like anxiety, fear and depression.
– Depression affects 1 in 5 older people living in the community and 2 in 5 living in care homes.
– 1 in 4 British adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any one year and 1 in 6 experiences this at any given time.
We Placed Idols Before The Spiritual
I personally believe humanity lost their way a long time ago and made the pursuit or and acquirement of power, money, property and prestige the main aims of life. We exalted these idols above our spiritual teachings, we placed self fulfilment and personal gain above spiritual principles and in so doing we dealt ourselves a very poor deal indeed. We placed materialism and prestige (through money and power) as the main way forward for humanity. Governments were created, in the beginning as a way of looking after the communities needs, now however especially after all the recent Governments scandals it would seem that the communities they serve are not getting the original benefits promised. We all fell from grace a long time ago and we each hold a portion of the blame and also a portion of the solution.
